The Kneipp Method on the Renon: Step by Step Toward Well-Being

“Health through water”—that is part of the Kneipp philosophy. There are two Kneipp trails on the Renon in South Tyrol, one of which is located at a unique altitude.

The Kneipp method, developed by Father Sebastian Kneipp, is a natural health practice based on the five pillars of water, exercise, nutrition, medicinal plants, and a healthy lifestyle.

Water – The power of water gets everything flowing!
Medicinal plants – Harness the natural active ingredients of local medicinal plants!
Healthy Nutrition – You are what you eat!
Exercise – Gentle physical activities in the fresh air—enjoying movement!
Lifestyle – Leading a balanced life with mindfulness and balance!

Water plays a central role in the holistic health concept of the Kneipp method. Water treading is probably the best-known—and perhaps the most popular—application.

Kneipp Therapy in the Mountains: Corno del Renon

There are two Kneipp facilities on the Ritten: one on the Kneipp Trail along Hiking Trail No. 8, which runs from Tann to Bad Siess, and another at the Rittner Horn, near the top station of the Rittner Horn Cable Car, where a Kneipp pool is situated at a unique high altitude.

How does Kneipp therapy work?

It’s quite simple: walk through the water using the “stork walk,” which means alternately lifting your right and left legs high enough so that they rise out of the water. Then shake the water off your legs and wrap yourself in something warm. This treatment provides immediate refreshment and renewed energy.
But it’s much more than just a way to cool off. It stimulates circulation, promotes blood flow, strengthens the immune system, has a positive effect on the autonomic nervous system, and strengthens the cardiovascular system.

Kneipp Therapy for the Whole Body

The so-called “Kneipp espresso”—a short, cold arm bath—is also very popular. Immerse your arms up to the middle of your upper arms in cold water, but not for too long (no more than 1 minute), then shake off the water and wrap yourself in something warm. The effect is a simple, quick refreshment.

The Kneipp facial rinse, a facial bath, stimulates blood circulation, tightens the skin, relieves headaches, and strengthens the autonomic nervous system. It is also known as a beauty rinse. Briefly submerge your face in cold water and briefly open your eyes underwater; afterward, do not dry your face—just shake off the water.

Important note for all treatments: Use only when your body is sufficiently warm—never on cold skin—and only as long as the sensation of cold is not unpleasant.
